I was born on December 24, 1969, in San Francisco, California. Because my family moved a lot, I grew up in Michigan, New York, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and England. I got my undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and my graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
I’ve worked as a busboy, an office assistant, an ESL teacher in Ecuador and Japan, a bookseller, a reference librarian and a web content developer, among other things. I’m currently an Information Specialist at the Johnson County Library.
I’m a huge geek, especially when it comes to comics, superheroes, SF and fantasy lit, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Babylon 5, old pulp magazines, Dada and Surrealism. Also, I tend to swear a lot.
Brooke (also known as Berkie): My companion. She’s beautiful, geeky and funny as hell. We make a great team. She tweets as therealberkie.
Morgan: My brilliant and funny daughter. She’s not mine biologically, but I’ve been her dad for two-thirds of her life and I couldn’t possibly love her any more if I were her biological father.
Julie: Morgan’s mom, my ex-wife. She’s smart, funny and opinionated. We don’t work as a couple, but she’s good people.
Rick: My father, a former librarian and Unitarian-Universalist minister (among other things). He liked to comment on my blog. He passed away on March 17, 2012.
Joan: My mother, a former law professor and law school dean (among other things). She doesn’t comment here often, but she’s still a big influence on a lot in my life.
Any questions? Just ask me.
